ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to convene a joint session of parliament on Wednesday in the wake of unprovoked aggression by Indian security forces across the Line of Control (LoC) and the deteriorating situation in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK).
The joint session will reaffirm national resolve for safeguarding the sovereignty and preserving the territorial integrity of the motherland against any kind of external or internal threat, as well as reiterating the moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of IHK. The prime minister will take the nation and parliament into confidence, read a statement.
Meanwhile, terming Jammu and Kashmir dispute an “unfinished agenda of the partition of the subcontinent” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said no external force had the capability or the capacity to challenge the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan.
“We have the best armed forces in the world and we are proud of that. Above all, the entire nation is standing behind our valiant armed forces,” the premier said in a statement.
The prime minister has also decided to convene the federal cabinet’s meeting today (Friday) where cross-LoC firing and atrocities in IHK will top the agenda items.
Nawaz Sharif also decided to convene a meeting of the National Security Committee on Tuesday, with special invitation to all the chief ministers to deliberate at length the emerging scenario across the LoC and brutal state oppression in IHK.
