PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information and Public Relations Secretary Tahir Hassan said on Thursday that the provincial government was providing financial assistance to journalists for their welfare and strengthening press clubs.
Tahir said that the work on a Press Briefing Studio – equipped with modern facilities – was in progress and independent reporters would shortly be recruited to highlight the government’s initiative in the media industry.
He informed the committee about the administrative structure, responsibilities and the targets so far achieved – on which the committee agreed to set up KP’s own TV channel and said that the issue would be raised in the provincial assembly as well.
The committee lauded the upcoming independent reporting system to be introduced in the Information Department shortly and hoped that the system will help uplift such schemes across the province.
The committee directed the authorities concerned for framing an equal model constitution for press clubs across the province with the support of senior journalists and also sought a list of journalists who had benefitted from welfare endowment fund at district level.
Furthermore, the committee also directed that the list of those public servants be provided who were working as journalists in various districts and suggested strict action against them.
The committee demanded increasing the duration of KP’s share on Pakistan Television (PTV) in its news telecast and further said that the federal government and the provinces had equal right on the national TV channel – but still demanded its own TV channel (Abaseen TV) for the people of KP.
